How it works

Every crew has the same argument: where are we eating, what are we watching, where are we going? Kismet replaces the 45-minute group-chat spiral with a 45-second ritual. Here’s the whole thing, beat by beat.

1. Someone starts an activity

Pick a type — Restaurant, Movie Night, Trip, Night Out, or Anything Goes — give it a title, and set two moments in time:

• The lock — when submissions seal. After this, nothing gets in and nothing changes.
• The draw — when fate picks. Set it seconds after the lock or days later; the wait is the fun part.

Invite your crew, individual friends, or anyone at all with a share link. People without the app join from their browser — no account needed.

2. Everyone submits — hidden

Each person drops exactly one pick, shaped by the activity type: a real restaurant from a live place search, a movie with its actual poster, a destination, a bar, or free text. Every submission is invisible to everyone — including the person who created the activity. No anchoring. No “well, if Maya picked that…” You can edit your own pick until the lock; you can never see anyone else’s.

3. The picks seal

At lock time, the activity seals. No new joins, no edits, no exceptions — and still nobody can see what’s in the pool. The countdown to the draw starts, and the app makes the suspense visible: who’s in, how many picks landed, how long until fate speaks.

4. Fate draws — on the server

At the draw, our server picks one submission, uniformly at random. The draw happens exactly once, with the seed and result stored for audit. No client can influence it, predict it, or re-roll it. The owner has no preview and no veto. Here’s exactly how we keep it honest.

5. The reveal

Everyone watching — in the iOS app, on Android, or in a guest’s browser tab — sees the same moment at the same time: the ball wakes, ignites, and surfaces the answer. Late to the party? The full reveal plays for you the moment you arrive. The winning pick unseals; every losing pick stays hidden in the vault of what could have been.

6. Everyone accepts

The winning pick is the plan. Tap Accept your fate, watch the acceptance tracker fill up, add the plan to your calendar in one tap. No take-backs — that’s the deal that makes the whole thing work, and honestly, it’s a relief.

The fine print that matters

• Hidden means hidden. Not “hidden until the owner peeks.” Hidden. Through open and sealed states, no endpoint or admin screen exposes a pick before the draw.
• Sealed is immutable. Once the scheduled lock passes, the seal is final. (An owner who sealed early by hand can reopen only while the scheduled lock is still in the future.)
• The countdown is real. Locks and draws run on the server on schedule — the app just gets to watch.
