Introducing Kismet: let fate decide
Every crew has a decision graveyard: the dinner that died in committee, the movie night that became forty minutes of trailers, the trip that stayed a group-chat fantasy. Today we’re shipping the fix. Kismet lets fate decide — and makes the deciding the best part of the night.
The whole app in five beats
- Start an activity. Restaurant, Movie Night, Trip, Night Out, or Anything Goes. Set the lock (when picks seal) and the draw (when fate speaks).
- Everyone submits — hidden. One pick each, invisible to the whole crew. Including the owner. Especially the owner.
- The picks seal. At lock time, the pool freezes. The countdown is communal suspense.
- Fate draws. On our servers, once, uniformly at random, seed and result persisted. Nobody can lobby a server.
- Everyone accepts. The ball ignites, the answer surfaces for everyone at the same moment, and the pact holds: no take-backs.
Why hidden picks change everything
Open suggestions have gravity: the first option anchors, the boldest voice bends the room, and the group converges on the least-objectionable middle. Hidden picks restore honesty. The quiet friend’s izakaya has the same odds as the group’s default spot. Wanting something becomes safe, because nobody owns the outcome — fate does.
Bring everyone, app or not
Crews are never all-in on one platform, so Kismet isn’t either: native iOS, native Android, and a full guest experience in the browser. Send one link and your app-less friend joins with a name and number, submits a hidden pick, and watches the same live reveal. The guest story is a feature, not a compromise.
Where we’re headed
We’re polishing the reveal until it feels like a tiny holiday, and filling the vault — the history of every fate your crew has accepted. Follow along here; the blog is where we think out loud.
Get Kismet, gather the crew, and put tonight in the pool.
